Codeforsu Foundation

CodeForSu Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the vision that every student in Suriname has the opportunity to learn computer science and digital skills as part of their education. We focus on expanding access to computer science education, with a particular emphasis on reaching young women and students from underrepresented communities. Since our inception, we have been a driving force behind local Hour of Code events, inspired by the global movement. Our efforts have engaged numerous schools and communities, empowering students and teachers across Suriname to embrace the possibilities of technology.

The CodeForSu Foundation was established in 2013 during the global Hour of Code initiative, inspired by the mission of code.org to broaden participation in computer science education. We believe that programming is not just for the tech-savvy; it’s a skill everyone can learn. Our core message emphasizes that a computer is merely a machine—it is we, the people, who control it.

The foundation was brought to life by our dedicated founders, each with a shared vision of advancing technology education in Suriname:

  • Founder/Chairman: Fabian Jacott
  • Co-founder: Earl Jacott
  • Co-founder: Amirildo Garden

Our journey began with organizing Hour of Code events in five schools across Paramaribo. In 2014, we officially registered our foundation and expanded our outreach until 2019, hosting events in not only Paramaribo but also Commewijne, Saramacca, Wanica, and Nickerie. We proudly engaged students and teachers, sparking interest in computer science throughout the country.
